You won’t see the AminoSweet name on your food labels since it’s just for industrial use. But aspartame? It’s still hiding in your diet sodas, “sugar-free” snacks, and low-cal treats.
Here’s the thing – this isn’t just about a name change. Studies keep pointing to some pretty concerning stuff. From headaches and depression to messing with your gut bacteria, the potential health impacts are hard to ignore. Some research even suggests it could lead to metabolic problems and make it harder for your body to process sugar properly.
The company behind this rebrand, Ajinomoto Group, is one of the biggest aspartame producers worldwide. They rolled out the AminoSweet name in 2010, but only for their industrial sales. For us regular folks, it’s still listed as “aspartame” on ingredient labels – at least they have to be that honest!
Think about it: if you wouldn’t knowingly add a controversial chemical to your coffee, why let it sneak in through other products? Maybe it’s time to look at what’s really in our “sugar-free” choices.
